Whether you’re visiting for a day or enjoying a longer break, St Davids has a wonderful way of encouraging you to slow down. Its compact size means you can explore much of the city on foot, discovering centuries of history alongside spectacular coastal scenery.
Here’s how we’d spend the perfect day.
8:00am – Start the Day with a Great Breakfast
A day exploring Pembrokeshire deserves a proper start. Take your time over breakfast before heading out – there’s plenty to see, but no need to rush.
9:00am – Explore St Davids Cathedral
Begin your morning at the magnificent St Davids Cathedral. Although hidden in the valley until you’re almost upon it, its soaring nave and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most remarkable cathedrals in Britain.
Allow at least an hour to wander through the building, admire its architecture and visit the shrine of St David.
10:30am – Visit the Bishop’s Palace
Just opposite the Cathedral stands the impressive medieval Bishop’s Palace. Once one of the grandest ecclesiastical residences in Britain, its dramatic ruins are a photographer’s dream and offer a fascinating glimpse into St Davids’ rich history.
11:30am – Wander the City
Stroll back towards Cross Square, browsing the independent shops, galleries and cafés. One of the pleasures of St Davids is that everything is within easy walking distance, making it easy to explore at your own pace.
1:00pm – Lunch
Enjoy lunch at one of the city’s welcoming cafés or restaurants. Whether you’re after homemade soup, fresh seafood or a light lunch, you’ll find plenty of excellent options within a few minutes’ walk.
2:30pm – Choose Your Afternoon Adventure
If you enjoy walking, head out along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path towards St Non’s Chapel or Caerfai Bay. The scenery is breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, wildflowers in season and sweeping sea views.
If you prefer a gentler afternoon, spend time at Oriel y Parc, where changing exhibitions celebrate both Welsh art and the unique landscape of Pembrokeshire.
5:00pm – Relax Before Dinner
Return to your accommodation at Ramsey House for a little downtime before heading out again. One of the joys of staying in St Davids is being able to leave the car behind and enjoy the city on foot.
Evening – Sunset by the Sea
Finish your day at Caerfai Bay or Whitesands Beach. On a calm evening, the changing colours over St Bride’s Bay provide the perfect end to a memorable visit.
Stay a Little Longer
Many visitors arrive expecting to see the Cathedral and leave a few hours later. Those who stay a night or two quickly discover there’s far more to St Davids than first meets the eye.
