The Best Wild Swimming Spots

The Best Wild Swimming Spots Near Ramsey House, St Davids.

There’s something special about summer in St Davids.

Long evenings, salty hair, sun-warmed cliffs, lazy swims, rockpools full of tiny discoveries, and that feeling of coming back to a hot shower and a comfortable bed after a day by the sea.

If you’re staying with us at  Ramsey House, you’re perfectly placed to explore some of the most beautiful swimming spots in Pembrokeshire — from wide sandy beaches to hidden coves and adventurous cliff-jumping locations.

Here are a few of our favourites.

Whitesands Bay & Carn Llidi

Whitesands Beach, St Davids, Pembrokeshire

Whitesands Bay is a classic for good reason.

The water here is often beautifully clear on calm summer days, making it ideal for a relaxed sea swim before stretching out on the sand with a coffee from the café nearby.

For anyone wanting a little adventure before or after a swim, the walk up Carn Llidi rewards you with incredible panoramic views across the coastline and out towards Ramsey Island.

Perfect for:

  • Easy summer swims
  • Families and sandy beach days
  • Sunset walks and sea dips

Caerfai Bay

Caerfai Bay

Tucked beneath dramatic red cliffs, Caerfai Bay has a slower, quieter feel.

At low tide, the rockpools here are brilliant for exploring, while the sheltered cove makes it a lovely spot for a gentle swim. Bring a towel, a flask, and take your time — this is the kind of place where a quick dip often turns into an entire afternoon.

Perfect for:

  • Rockpool exploring
  • Calm evening swims
  • Relaxed beach days

The Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon, Abereiddy

For the more adventurous, Blue Lagoon is unforgettable.

This flooded slate quarry is famous for its deep blue water and dramatic cliffs. It was even used for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series several years ago.

Today, locals and visitors still come here to swim, explore, and — for the brave — leap from the quarry ledges into the water below.

Even if you keep your feet firmly on the rocks, it’s an incredible place to visit.

Perfect for:

  • Adrenaline-filled swims
  • Cliff jumping
  • Dramatic coastal scenery

Pencarnan & The Original Bluetits

Pencarnan has become a favourite gathering place for sea swimmers and outdoor enthusiasts.

It’s also home to the original The Bluetits Chill Swimmers group — famous for encouraging year-round cold-water swimming with plenty of laughter and community spirit along the way.

Expect refreshing dips, relaxed vibes, and plenty of salty smiles.

Perfect for:

  • Social sea swims
  • Cold water swimming
  • Laid-back coastal mornings

Traeth Llyfn

Traeth Llefyn Beach

If you’re searching for a quieter escape, Traeth Llyfn feels wonderfully hidden away.

Only accessible via the coast path, this secluded beach is surrounded by cliffs and wild coastal scenery. The water here can be beautifully clear and calm on the right day, making it ideal for a peaceful swim far from the crowds.

Bring good shoes, travel light, and enjoy the adventure getting there.

Perfect for:

  • Secluded wild swimming
  • Peaceful beach days
  • Coastal adventures
