A Special Place in St David’s | St Non’s Chapel

Just a gentle ten-minute stroll from Ramsey House B&B, along quiet country lanes, you’ll find one of the most peaceful and quietly moving spots in Pembrokeshire: St Non’s Chapel.

Perched above the wild beauty of St Brides Bay, the chapel feels almost hidden from time. It’s small—remarkably so—with seating for just eight people. Step inside and you’re immediately struck by its simplicity: thick stone walls, soft light filtering through a single stained-glass window, and a stillness that seems to settle around you.

A Place of Origins

St Non’s Chapel stands on a site steeped in early Welsh Christian history. It is traditionally believed to be near the birthplace of St David, the patron saint of Wales, who was born here in the 6th century to St Non.

The chapel you see today dates largely from the 13th century, though it likely replaced an even earlier structure. Over the centuries, it has been a place of pilgrimage, prayer, and quiet reflection. Nearby, you’ll also find the ruins of an earlier chapel and a holy well long associated with healing.

Despite its age and significance, the chapel has never been grand or imposing. Instead, it has always remained humble—fitting for a place tied to the simple, ascetic life of St David himself.

Inside the Chapel

The interior is beautifully understated. Rough stone walls curve around you, holding centuries of stories. A small altar sits beneath the window, where coloured glass casts gentle light across the space. There’s a sense that nothing here is rushed—everything invites you to slow down.

A carved statue and a few thoughtful details add to the feeling of quiet devotion, but it’s the scale of the space that stays with you. With just a handful of seats, it feels deeply personal, almost as if it exists for whoever happens to wander in.

The Walk There

Reaching the chapel is part of its charm. A short ten-minute walk from Ramsey House B&B along peaceful lanes brings you straight to this hidden corner.

If you feel like stretching your legs a little further, the coastal path offers a longer, more scenic route—around an hour’s walk—with sweeping views across St Brides Bay, where the light and sea are constantly shifting.

A Moment to Pause

St Non’s Chapel isn’t a place you visit for long. It’s a place you pause in. Whether you’re drawn by history, spirituality, or simply the beauty of a quiet space overlooking the sea, it offers something rare: stillness.

And being just minutes from your room, it’s one of those small, special experiences that makes staying here feel connected—to the landscape, the past, and a slower way of being.

If you’re planning a peaceful escape to St Davids, we’d love to welcome you to Ramsey House B&B—perfectly placed for unhurried walks, sea air, and places like this just beyond the doorstep. Https://www.ramseyhouse.co.uk
